Everyone's still arguing about which model is smartest.
Meanwhile the actual skill I keep coming back to has nothing to do with the model at all.
The Model Isn't the Actor. It's the Camera.
A camera doesn't decide what's in the shot. Someone points it, frames it, decides what stays out of view.
That's what context engineering really is — not adding more, but pointing the lens at the right thing.
Every extra document, every leftover message, every "just in case" instruction is something in frame that doesn't need to be there. The model still has to look at it.
Most People Are Filming with the Lens Cap Half On
They obsess over the prompt — the "script" — while the model is actually working off stale memory, irrelevant history, and half the information it needs.
You can rewrite the script all day. If the camera's pointed at the wrong thing, the scene still doesn't work.
My Take
Prompting got the model to say the right words.
Context is what decides if those words are actually true.
The best AI teams aren't writing better scripts anymore. They're learning where to point the camera.
